Born in 1949 in the coastal city of Changhua, Taiwan, Yuan Chin-Taa graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Taiwan Normal University in 1975, before obtaining a Master of Fine Arts at City University of New York.
Back home, he develops an artistic practice combining the use of Chinese ink and a multitude of techniques. In parallel, his career leads him to teaching, as a teacher at Taiwan Normal University.
His painting work (in ink, oil and acrylic) is applied to many materials, including photography, fabric, newsprint, wood, ceramics. Reflecting his personal interests, he explores several themes in his work: nativist realism, ecological awareness, reflection on society, culture of consumption.
Multiple and protean at first glance, Yuan Chin-Taa's work presents several fundamental constants that make it possible to understand its origins and issues. Not far from Western philosophical considerations, his work is placed between Culture and Nature, between artifice and the spontaneous, between order and chaos.
