Discover the fabulous history of the circus, from its birth in the eighteenth century thanks to the works of the private collection of Dr. Alain Frère.
Descrizione:
The exhibition will take you on a trip to the Wild West with Buffalo Bill, a historical figure and precursor of the itinerant show of the American West in Europe. You will discover clowns, trapeze artists, tightrope walkers, trainers, jugglers and squires through costumes, documents, objects and accessories related to a story or a life of performance.
The circus has inspired great artists like Francisco de Goya, Toulouse Lautrec, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Victor Vasarely, Albert Chubac, all fascinated by this great popular show, whose paintings of Masters will naturally take place alongside French posters of great talent such as Jules Chéret, Pal, Florit, Gustave Soury or Antonin Magne.
This circus, thanks to the large families Amar, Bouglione, Gruss or Zavatta performing in Nice and on the Côte d'Azur, is honored at the International Festival of Monte Carlo under the marquee Fontvieille, world reference in the arts of circus for over 40 years. A 35-minute film featuring the biggest numbers awarded a Golden Clown is made especially for the exhibition.
