« Les routes du thé » par Tuul et Bruno Morandi

Dal 06 ottobre 2021 al 07 febbraio 2022
Musée Départemental des Arts Asiatiques
The exhibition "Tea Routes" is an extract of their photographic journey which will also take them to Turkey and Africa.

It all begins with a journey to the origins of tea in China, in Yunnan and Sichuan, in search of its origins and the first tea gardens. Legend has it that tea was born there in the 3rd millennium BC when Shen Nong, one of the three Augustans, was resting under a tree and boiling water to quench his thirst. The breeze blew a few leaves into the water, giving it an amber colour and a delicate fragrance. The tree was a wild tea plant: tea was born.

Beyond the legend, it is the various tea-producing and tea-drinking countries that the photographic couple travels to. From China, Tuul and Bruno Morandi travelled to Japan, where tea has become a delicate art that expresses the very essence of Zen philosophy. They then travelled to India and Ceylon, where tea had become the great business of the English and from where it resolutely set out to conquer the world. In the meantime, their journey took them to the high plateaus of Tibet and Mongolia, where Buddhist monks adopted brick tea early on to preserve it better, before continuing along the Silk Roads to the tea houses of the bazaars of Central Asia.
